KI NO TEA Kyoto Dry Gin

Origin: Japan

Alkoholgehalt: 45.1%

Japan's first gin distillery is located in the south of the Japanese city of Kyoto. Their gins are made on the basis of rice alcohol and exquisite Japanese botanicals. The name Kinobi means "the beauty of the seasons". The special thing about this gin is the complex production process, which only a few distilleries worldwide undertake. The starting ingredients are the flavors, which are classified into three groups. The base: juniper, violet root and hinoki. Citrus: yuzu and lemon, and tea as the third group. Each group is individually macerated in rice alcohol and then distilled. After the distillates

blended together, master distillers combine the newly received batch with the previous week's batch to preserve the flavor consistency and balance of the handcrafted gin. After several days of storage, half of the product is filled into the 70cl bottles, while the other half is waiting to be blended with the latest batch very soon.

Rose petals, lemon balm, mountain tea, chamomile, thyme, fennel, juniper. In order to understand exactly which aromas are released, one would almost have to open a botanical encyclopedia. But maybe it's enough to know that the Alkkemist Gin tastes predominantly sweet, fruity and floral.

Gun Room Navy Gin

Origin: Sweden

Alkoholgehalt: 57%

Named after the seafarers' habit of transporting rum and gin casks to the ship's armory, the "Gunroom Navy Gin" matures in former whiskey casks after distillation. This process gives it its unmistakably soft and round finish as well as a hint of sweet oak-vanilla.

The Gunroom Navy Gin is a classic, juniper-dominated gin in terms of taste.

In addition to this, you can taste a slightly lemony nuance, with a rather tart, earthy note on the finish. Nevertheless, the distillate has an alcohol content of 57%, and this can be recognized both in the nose and in the taste.

gin knowledge

Did you know?

Who invented it? Surprisingly, not the English, but the Dutch. A Dutch doctor invented a juniper schnapps in the 17th century, which he called "Genever". English soldiers brought this liquor to the British Isles. There it was given the simpler name “gin”.

Where does almost all juniper come from? Wild-picked – most juniper used in gin production grows wild

London Dry Gin is not always from London. In fact, the majority of London Dry Gins do not come from London at all, but from other cities. Unlike cognac, scotch or tequila, for example, gin has no legal geographical restrictions as far as production is concerned.

What does the designation London Dry Gin mean? Style of Production - London Dry Gin is not a specific brand or denomination of origin, but a category with specific rules for distillation and ingredients. So a kind of purity law.

Gin and tonic used to be used as a medicine. Against what did he help? Malaria - Tonic is quinine water and quinine was the only cure for malaria for centuries. However, since quinine is very bitter, people started mixing it - that's how the tonic found its way into the gin. The daily gin and tonic thus became a “gratifying duty” against malaria.
