Did you know?

The first distillation of rum occurred in the 1620s when Caribbean sugar plantation slaves discovered that molasses, a by-product of sugar refining, could be fermented into alcohol.




The word rum... is probably derived from the English dialect word rumbullion for "riot" and "tumult".

Rum is made from... the molasses of the raw sugar, not from the sugar cane juice as many people think. Molasses is a chewy, dark brown sugar syrup. However, a small part of the rum production is made from freshly squeezed sugar cane juice. The name for this type of rum comes from the French overseas territories and is called Rhum Agricole.

The word Meleasse... comes from the late Latin "mellacium" and means "thickened wine, cider syrup" and "mel" for honey.

What is the minimum alcohol content in rum? Rum always has a minimum alcohol content of 37.5 percent. Pampero Ru, for example, is made with water from the in-house spring. Without the spring water, the rum distillate would have an alcohol content of 65 to 75 percent.

Woher kommt die goldene Farbe? 

Durch das Reifen im Holzfass bekommt dem Rum nicht nur seine goldene Farbe, sondern es macht ihn auch glatter und weicher im Geschmack. Außerdem können diverse Aromen freigesetzt werden, von gerösteter Vanille über Gewürze bis hin zu Kaffee.

What about white rum? White rum is either stored in steel casks or, like Pampero Blanco, is charcoal filtered after aging in wooden casks. This removes strong wood notes and gives it its fresh and fruity taste.

Rum not just for drinking? In the 19th century, rum was valued as a beauty product for its ability to cleanse hair and strengthen its roots. Today we know that it is not true.

Maturation and rum. Good taste takes time: the rum matures for 18 months in oak barrels, similar to whiskey. Rum must be stored in oak barrels for at least 3 years in order to be called "old rum".

Bumbu the Craft, Bumbu Rum CO.

A special blend of rums from eight different countries: Barbados, Belize, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Costa Rica, Honduras and Guyana. Some of these have been matured for up to 15 years. The secret lies in blending the different rums. The result is an inimitable, complex, soft and sweet rum to drink straight or for cocktails.


The product

A masterpiece of blending. Dark amber in color. The scent is pronounced with vanilla, caramel and oak with cinnamon and roasted nuts and ripe, flambéed bananas. Complex, soft and harmonious on the palate with fine sweetness and spice. Long-lasting.

Providence Pure Single Rum, Veiler

The Distillerie de Port-au-Prince is the newest rum distillery in the Caribbean. Providence is an unaged rum distilled from cane syrup and freshly squeezed cane juice.

Natural and fruity. Elderflower, pineapple, strawberries and brown sugar.

Rhum Agricole Fumeé Volcanique, Rhum J.M.

Herkunft: Martinique

Alcohol content: 49%

This Rhum Agricole is made from the pure fermented juice of sugar cane. The sugar cane comes from plantations located on the volcanic soil at the foot of Mont Pellé. So the Fumée Volcanique, as the name suggests, is more on the smoky side.

Der Charaktervolle J. M. Rhum Agricole Fumée Volcanique wird seinen Namen sehr gerecht. So ist ein Vergleich zu einen schottischen Single Malt mehr als gerechtfertigt. Der verhältnismässig hohe Alkoholgehalt tut sein Restliches wobei der Rum nie hochprozentig wirkt. Neben dem Rauch sind Aromen von gesalzenen Karamell, gebuttertem Popcorn, Vanille, Zimt und Dörrobst. Der Abgang ist langanhaltend und robust mit feinen rauchigem Aroma.

Pure Single Jamaican Rum 8 yrs, Hampden Estate

Origin: Jamaica

Dark Rum Solera 5 yrs, Gold of Mauritius

Origin: Mauritius

The highest quality product was initially distilled from molasses produced in sugar production. The Gold of Mauritius Rum is specially made from a blend of rums made from molasses and freshly pressed juice. The Solera 5 is a blend of various old reserves that have been matured using the Solera process. After blending, it is aged in port wine casks for another 6 - 8 months.


The product

amber. Beguiling scent of exotic fruits, caramel, coffee, milk chocolate and nuts. Sweet, fruity, vanilla and filling on the palate. Long aromatic finish.

Mr. Rum, Macardo

Herkunft: Schweiz

Alcohol content: 42%

The rum is fermented from sugar cane molasses sustainably grown by small farms in India and Nicaragua. Separately and with selected special yeasts, these are distilled over a wood fire. The rum is then matured in used whiskey casks. The blending of the two single-origin rums is based on a strictly guarded recipe.


The product

A Swiss rum of the highest quality, unique in taste, 100% natural, without sugar (couleur), caramel syrup, colorings or aromas.

Rum Original Dark Pineapple "Stiggins Fancy", Plantation

Origin: Caribbean

Alcohol content: 40%

Pineapples are peeled and cut into pieces by hand. The pulp is placed in Plantation Original Dark Rum for three months, the peel pieces in white Plantation 3 Stars for a week. The two macerates are distilled separately, then blended and left in barrel for three months.

Rum Peru Vintage Edition, Plantation 

Herkunft: Peru

Alcohol content: 43.10%

The aging story: 11 years of storage in bourbon casks in Peru, the country of origin. Journey to France and three years of aging in small, used French oak cognac casks in the cool cellars of Château de Bonbonnet.


The product

Opulent bouquet with prominent prominent wood notes. Lingers on the nose with fruity notes of cooked apples, lemons, mangoes and walnuts, which combine harmoniously with spicy hints of white pepper, vanilla and nutmeg.

Kraken Black Spiced Rum

Der Kraken Black Spiced Rum ist nach dem bekannten Meeresungeheuer aus Seefahrerlegenden benannt und wird in Trinidad und Tobago aus den verschiedensten Botanicals und Melasse-Rum hergestellt.   



The product

In terms of taste, the strong but pleasant spiciness is particularly noticeable. A total of 11 different spices are used in the production - the manufacturer does not want to reveal exactly which they are.

Rum One Time Limited Edition 2011 9 yrs, Plantation

Origin: Barbados

Alkoholgehalt: 51.10%

Only 24 casks were selected for the Plantation Vintage Rum Barbados One Time Limited Edition 2011. These were stored for 4 1/2 years in American ex-bourbon casks on the island of Barbados before they were shipped to the Cognac region where they were allowed to mature for another 4 1/2 years in Cognac Ferrand casks. Bottled at 51.1% vol. at cask strength. All barrels come from the West Indies Distillery in Barbados, which now belongs to Maison Ferrand.


The product

Dunkles Gold. In der Nase würzige Noten nach Zimt, Pfeffer und Ingwer. Dazu Früchte wie Pflaumen, Zwetschgen und Rosinen, dazu noch Zitronenschalen. Im Gaumen kräftig, cremig und expressiv. Holznoten, Walnüsse, Karamell und Schokolade. Langer, aromatischer Abgang.

Ron Dominicano Gran Anejo, Ron Barcelo

Origin: Cathedral. republic

Alcohol content: 38%

The Barcelo Gran Anejo matures in select oak barrels for at least 5 years. In Santo Domingo, where the ideal conditions exist for high-quality sugar cane to thrive. The Barcelo distillery is now one of the largest in the Caribbean, the motherland of rum par excellence.


The product

Amber colored rum with a full body and aromas of mocha, caramel, herbs, nuts and roasted coffee beans. A light touch of pepper gives this rum a wonderful aromatic note.

Rum Ultra Premium Reserve, Dictator 12 yrs

Origin: Colombia

Alcohol content: 40%

The Dictador 12 years rum is an ultra premium rum from Colombia and probably the best known. Made from virgin sugar cane honey, distilled in pot still and column still. After distillation, the rum was aged in oak barrels in the Solera system for 12 years.


The product

Soft and round on the palate with notes of caramel, coffee and honey. The finish is complex, with light notes of oak and ends with a long-lasting finish.

Extra old Rum HMS Royal Oak, Admiral Rodney

Herkunft: St. Lucia

Alcohol content: 40%

Coffey still rum aged 7-12 years before blending. George Brydges Rodney was the admiral who gave the St. Lucia Distillers rum its name.


The product

Radiant amber, plums and dried fruit on the nose, oak, tropical spices. Tobacco and chocolate on the palate, sweet fruit and caramel again on the finish.

Myers Rum

Origin: Jamaica

Rum Gran Reserva 15 Blender, Methuselah

Rum Matusalem 15 Blender amazes at every tasting. It is less reminiscent of classic rum, as it has an incredible delicacy and density in character. This rum was the only one to win double gold at the World of Spirits Competition, underscoring its excellent quality.


The product

Light amber. Caramel, maple syrup, plums, oak and vanilla fill the air. On the palate it is only moderately sweet with floral notes. Spicy components and something nutty, marzipan and orange peel accompany the whole thing. Medium finish.

Barceló Imperial Premium Blend 30 Aniversario is the result of the best alcohols obtained from the fermentation and direct distillation of the precious Dominican sugar cane juice. Aged for up to a decade in American white oak and then two more years in French oak casks with varying degrees of charring.

Cihuatan Xaman XO El Salvador

Cihuatán Xaman is the ultimate homage to the house's rich Mayan heritage and Salvadorian roots. The name "Xaman" was inspired by the Mayan god of the North Star and protector of the Cihuatán Valley. Cihuatán Xaman is a 16 year old rum, aged for 15 years in American oak casks (ex-Bourbon) and another year in Mayan Ceiba casks.


The product

The aroma is powerful, flavors of leather, clove plums, balsamic toast, grilled pineapple and panela glazed bacon. The finish is warm and persistent.

Mit dem El Ron Prohibido Reserva 22 kommt ein neuer Rum aus Mexiko in die Schweiz. Die Spirituose enthält Rum der eine Reifung in einem Solera-System aus 22 ausgewählten Fässern aus amerikanischem Eichenholz erfährt, mit teils Pekannussschalen, Mandelschalen und Pfirsiche aus dem mexikanischen Staat Zacatecas. Cristóbal Niña is a premium rum blend from the Dominican Republic, matured in ex-Bourbon casks for 8 to 12 years. Niña is the nickname of the ship Santa Clara that accompanied Columbus on several of his adventures to America. Due to mutinies in the colonies and lack of money, Columbus had to sell the ship.


The product

Rum 1616 White Rum Organic Langatun

Herkunft: Schweiz

The 1616 White Organic Rum belongs to the family of 1616 Black Editions. The handcrafted organic rum is a premium rum made from South American, organically grown sugar cane. The molasses is transported to the distillery for further processing. Then pure water and yeast are added to the molasses, which are converted into high-proof spirits through a double pot still distillation. Since the rum is not aged in the barrel, it is a white rum that is mainly used for mixing.


The product
